Abstract. Significance. The strategic goal of modern epileptology is to improve the quality of life of patients. Patients with epilepsy are socially maladjusted, have a significantly lower level of quality of life, and suffer from stigmatization and discrimination. Despite the fact that an increasing number of researchers are paying attention to this problem, a number of issues remain that require study: identification of factors influencing the quality of life and social status of patients with epilepsy; identifying the need, availability and characteristics of rehabilitation measures that help improve the social functioning of patients with epilepsy.

The purpose of the study is to assess the availability and need for rehabilitation measures for patients with epilepsy based on the characteristics of social functioning and quality of life of patients with epilepsy.

Materials and Methods. The method of content analysis and analytical method were used.

Results. The quality of life of patients with epilepsy is significantly lower. The analysis showed that the social status and quality of life of patients with epilepsy are influenced by a variety of factors — clinical, medication and psychosocial. Epilepsy affects the psychological state of patients, their family functioning and social status not only due to the disease itself, but also due to stigmatization and self-stigmatization. Cognitive impairments, a negative personal reaction to the disease and discrimination in society lead to a deterioration in the quality of life of patients with epilepsy and social maladjustment.

Discussion. The social failure of patients suffering from epilepsy manifests itself in all spheres of life, which causes a high need for all types of rehabilitation – medical, labor, psychosocial, however, high-quality rehabilitation remains inaccessible. Active rehabilitation orientation of the activities of medical workers when managing patients with epilepsy are important.

Conclusion. Epilepsy has a negative impact on the quality of life and social status of patients. The assessment of the quality of life will make individual rehabilitation programs more effective. Correction of the quality of life in epilepsy is necessary to increase the effectiveness of therapeutic and rehabilitation measures. Monitoring aspects of social functioning and quality of life is an effective indicator of treatment and rehabilitation interventions for epilepsy.
